Scottish Highland Cattle – Some facts The Scottish Highland Cattle originally comes from the north of Scotland and the adjacent islands. The Highland Cattle have existed in unchanged form and without crossbreeding for over 150 years. Today, they are found in many color variations worldwide. The most striking features are the short and broad head with powerful horns and the shaggy coat, which consists of long, coarse outer hair and soft undercoat. The former protects the Highland Cattle from rain, while the latter keeps the cold away. The lively eyes are partially covered by a long and bushy tuft of hair. The mouth is short and broad. The Highland Cattle has short and stocky limbs and exhibits a straight and regular gait. The hooves are healthy and strong.
