He completed his training with the state examination in 1994 at the Veterinary Medicine Faculty, Zurich. His doctoral thesis dealt with the topic of aseptic loosening of the artificial hip joint in dogs and was conducted at Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, and at the Veterinary Medicine Faculty Zurich. After his dissertation, he worked in various veterinary clinics and practices and completed further training in conventional medicine, complementary medicine, and behavioral medicine. Dr. Abbühl also served as a specialist expert for animal welfare, pets, and wildlife at the Veterinary Office Zurich. He regularly gives lectures and has published articles on various topics in veterinary medicine. Since 2024, Dr. Abbühl has been working as an external consultant on behalf of the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture, FiBL, in Frick. In this role, he conducts official international small animal telephone consultations regarding Iscador tumor therapy (mistletoe therapy). There is also close collaboration, including further training, with FiBL. Marie-Therese Abbühl has trained as a pediatric nurse and has worked in various fields such as obstetrics, neonatal intensive care, international study supervision, and diabetes counseling.
